India e-Arrival Card for Australian Citizens
Australian citizens travelling to India must complete the India e-Arrival Card, including Australian passport holders with an OCI or eOCI card.
Submit your arrival information within 72 hours before your scheduled arrival in India. Your Indian arrival time determines this window.
Do Australian passport holders need an India e-Arrival Card?
Yes. The Australian Government’s Smartraveller advice for India confirms the requirement for Australian citizens and OCI cardholders.
The card records your arrival information. You must separately hold the appropriate Indian visa or OCI travel documentation.
If you live in Australia but travel on another country’s passport, use the nationality and details of that travel passport.
When does the 72-hour window open in Australia?
First subtract 72 hours from your scheduled arrival time in India. Then convert that opening time to your Australian location.
Example: If you arrive in India on Sunday at 8 am Indian Standard Time, the window opens on Thursday at 8 am Indian Standard Time.
The corresponding Australian opening times are:
| Australian location | Thursday opening time for this example |
|---|---|
| Perth | 10:30 am AWST |
| Darwin | Midday ACST |
| Brisbane | 12:30 pm AEST |
| Adelaide | Midday ACST, or 1 pm ACDT |
| Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart | 12:30 pm AEST, or 1:30 pm AEDT |
Use the time zone in effect when the window opens. Sydney and Brisbane can be an hour apart during daylight saving. Check Australia’s time zones if you are unsure.
These times apply only to the example itinerary. Recalculate using your own scheduled arrival.
You can send your details to our service earlier. We review them after payment and complete government submission within the permitted window.
Which arrival date should I enter?
Use the date you arrive in India, as shown on your itinerary. A connecting or overnight journey can arrive on a different date from your departure from Australia.
Check the selected date before submitting, particularly if your booking uses another display format.
What should Australian OCI holders enter?
Use your current Australian travel passport’s details in the passport fields. Your OCI card number is a separate identifier.
Check your name and passport number against the passport you will carry, especially if you have recently renewed it.
Completing an arrival card does not update your OCI passport records. Read our India e-Arrival Card for OCI Holders guide for more information.
What information should I prepare?
Have your travel passport, itinerary and Indian accommodation details ready. Check the accommodation’s Indian state and district rather than entering your Australian address in those fields.
Use an email address you can access during your journey.
For an Australian mobile number, select +61 and check the completed international number. The leading zero is omitted: a mobile beginning 04 becomes +61 4…. If the form formats the number automatically, check the result before submitting.
See our full e-Arrival Card requirements checklist for the remaining details.
Is the e-Arrival Card the same as Air Suvidha?
No. The e-Arrival Card and the Air Suvidha health self-declaration are separate forms.
Smartraveller currently also advises completing the health declaration within 24 hours before arrival. Completing an e-Arrival Card does not complete that declaration.
Check the latest Smartraveller entry advice before departure, because additional requirements can change.
